If you have read any of our other posts, you probably know how much we love food and food tours. Food plays an important role in our travels and what better way to experience a place than try its’ amazing food, right? Now there is an even better way to experience a destination through food through your smart phone. How cool is that? Its through an app called Bitemojo.
We were able to experience an amazing culinary treat in Barcelona’s famous Boqueria market. In this post we will review the app and also tell you how the app works.
Disclosure: This post is sponsored in partnership with bitemojo. We were treated to complimentary self-guided food tours in Barcelona in exchange for an honest review on our blog. As always our reviews are entirely our own opinions.

Why we loved bitemojo?
We visited Victoria, BC earlier this year and really wanted to go on a food tour. We had our 3 year old with us and decided to go anyways, big mistake! Don’t get me wrong, she loves food, but the tour was 4 hours long and on foot. She was in her stroller but was getting restless as each stop would just be a few minutes long and since we were in a large group we didn’t want to bother everyone else by having to make them wait for us. Then came bitemojo to the rescue on our trip to Barcelona.
In my opinion bitemojo is perfect for families who want to still go on a food tour. Why you ask? Because of it’s FLEXIBILITY. You are not a part of any large group. You can start at your own time, finish when you want and even pause the tour if your little one is tired and needs some shut eye. If you don’t end up finishing your tour, you can trade in your bites in exchange for bite credits for your next tour. A 1000 bite credits equals one free bite.
The quality of the food was phenomenal. You could tell that they had put in a lot of work finding the right vendors and the right dishes that represent the destination and its flavors. All the dishes were very unique and each restaurant had a story behind it. For example, trying cheese from one of the oldest cheese stores in Barcelona.
The quantity of each bite was way more than a bite! They should actually be calling them “plates”! Each tasting was large enough and by the end of the tour we were so full that we paused our tour and had the last bite the following day. After 5-6 “bites” you will feel pretty full, it is like a meal that is spread out. Think ‘tapas’ on the go!
Review of our bitemojo tour in La Boqueria Market, Barcelona.
Bitemojo offers two tours in Barcelona. The Gothic Food Tour and The La Boqueria Market & El Raval. We got to try the La Boqueria and El Raval food tour. The tour started in front of the Boqueria Market, with a description of it’s history and how it is organised. Very interesting facts. Then the app guided us to the first stop inside the market. I will be honest, it was a little hard to find this vendor as the market was crowded and the stall numbers are not very visible. But they have information desks inside the market where we got a map and were able to find the stall. Also we did not realize that the app had the market stall map in the discover section of the vendor page.
Our first tasting was “Cod pastries”. We got to the vendor and showed him our phone, he immediately handed us two portions of the cod pastries and told us to enjoy. They were delicious and fresh. The app even had some information on how the dish is made, a little bit of history behind the dish and even a little history behind the owner. Fun stuff.
Our second tasting was manchego cheese and Fuet in a different stall inside the market. This stall was a Fromatgeria meaning cheese store and it happened to be one of the oldest in Barcelona offering over 200 Cheeses. The Manchego we had here was beyond belief. The Fuet was a cured meat with so much flavor and was my daughters favorite.
The next few stops were points of interest. The app directed us there and gave us cultural information about the spots. Our third bite was my favorite “Mexican style Pork Tapa”. It was in a quaint little restaurant a little ways from the market. Their menu was so different and amazing that we went back there for dinner on a different night. This tapa won the Best Tapa award in 2015 and after tasting it I sure knew why! The interesting thing about this restaurant was that almost everything you order there is shaped like a ball.
Our next stop was for some Beer along with Artichoke hearts, but this was my least favorite dish. I am not a huge fan of pickled Artichokes but this stop worked out great for us as it was right next to a kids play area and my daughter had a blast playing with the other Spanish kids there. That gave us time to enjoy a few more beers and relax while she ran around.
By the time we walked to the next stop our daughter was fast asleep in her stroller. The next few stops were some doughnuts and chocolates. We wanted our daughter to be try them out too. So we paused the tour and did some sightseeing and decided to come back when she was up. This is what I loved about the tour. There was no rush to go anywhere and no time constraints.
We came back to claim our sweet bites. The doughnuts from Chok were too pretty to eat. Ishanvi woke up and felt like she was in sweet heaven. We claimed our bites and took them to a nearby park to eat. They gave us a choice on the flavors and I got the white chocolate with raspberry and Vik got the Lavender one. Both were delicious and Ishanvi thoroughly enjoyed them.
Overall I absolutely enjoyed our bitemojo tour and I cannot emphasize the quality of the food that was provided enough and the ease in which you can have a fabulous self-guided food tour. I highly recommend bitemojo and I cannot wait to go to another bitemojo destination that offers a tour.
